US101 Listener Memories...
I remember when US101 first went on the air. You were having a call in contest and I won a hamburger and fries from McDonalds and a t-shirt. When the DJ asked what my favorite radio station was, I started to say one of the competitors and caught myself and yelled out "US101.The DJ and I both laughed. I don't even remember the other station now!
I listen to US101 every morning while I am getting ready for work. I have laughed, and I have cried. Every one of you have the biggest hearts. I e-mailed and my son and I called you, Kim, when we found out that my dad had prostate cancer. We wanted to get Willy Nelson to call or see if we could set up some kind of visit with my dad and Willy. My dad was a HUGE fan of Willy Nelson. He would have been so thrilled. You talked to my son and me like we had been best friends forever. You even gave us advice as to how to get in touch with Willy. That was touching to both my son and me.
I love listening to the high noon saloon! you are hilarious! You make the afternoon such a bright time for everyone. Even when you were having your personal problems, you still were there to brighten up everyone else's day. You put yourself and your situation aside and did your job and then some. I have a huge amount of respect for you as I was going through my divorce not long after you. I can't say that I was that chipper at my work place, but I can say that after a phone conversation with you, about my dad and my divorce, (finding out that my dad was sick right in the middle of an ugly divorce) you were a major inspiration to me. You are such a strong person.
I love Church Night! I love the southern gospel music. I also love listening on Sunday mornings. And Maw maw is awesome. I can remember my nanny singing in the kitchen when I was a little girl. She was a lot better than Maw maw is, but it brings back precious memories of my grandmother.
I remember Sister! The first time I heard her I thought to myself...what the heck is that, then I busted out laughing!
I remember David Earl Hughes and Big John Anthony. The sadness that filled every listeners hearts. The broken hearts of the other DJ's at US101.
I have good memories and sad memories that I have shared with each of you. I enjoy your station and your games and the wonderful sense of humor that carry me through almost every day. I know what the weather is going to be like, the traffic in the mornings and afternoons and the local news, all obtained from you guys. You all do a great job and I wish you all another great 25 years.
May God bless and keep you always!! Suzi Wheeler I have grown up listening to US101. Throughout the years, US101 has been there with me through so many important times in my life. Although I don't have a specific memory in mind, I do love the High Noon Saloon Shows. Thanks to the High Noon Saloon and US101, I got to see Gary Allan up close and personal in June 2003. That was a treat! More recently, I've been able to take my daughter Nicole to the High Noon Saloon shows, and she just loves them! The atmosphere is always family-friendly, and I love being able to do something with Nicole that I consider fun, quality time! Thank you so much US101 for being such a great radio station with such a great group of people! I love you guys! Cynthia Allgood Dalton, GA have been to a lot of concerts and other many functions thanks to US101 that I probably would have never attended if it hadn't of been for the wanting to be that 9th caller...lol
Joann and I walked around at Riverbend with a big poster of Trace Adkins / Badonka donk in 100 degree temperature just to win back stage passes to meet and greet with Trace Adkins...we won.....wow what a moment!!!! Charolotte Elkins Hey Kim, US101 has done so many great things for the city of Chattanooga its hard to narrow it down. But I will say one day during the St. Jude's telethon I was listening to the US101 and they were talking to a 16yr old boy who had lost his arm due to cancer. He was a very upbeat young man and he told his story of how St. Jude's Children's Hospital had done many wonderful things for him and his family. Well I don't mind saying that I was in tears by the time he finished his story and I got right on the phone and started to give a monthly donation to St. Jude's and I know if it hadn't been for US101 that I would have never heard the story first of all, but I wouldn't have known the many great things that US101 and St. Jude's does for the many needy children that need our help. I will never for get this as long as I live and will continue to support St. Jude's and US101. Hope ya have a great day, Tim Cruise When I was growing up, I loved listening to David Earl Hughes on a local rock station. I just COULD NOT believe it when he jumped ship for a COUNTRY station. Now I'm addicted! Thanks so much US101 for a good distraction during my work days! Debbie Williams
HELLO KIM CARSON AND ALL US 101 LISTENERS
I WOULD LIKE TO LET YOU KNOW WHAT US 101 MEANS TO ME. I AM A LADY IN MY LATE 50'S AND HAVE BEEN A FAN OF COUNTRY MUSIC ONLY FOR THE LAST 15 YEARS. MY DAUGHTER CALLED ONE DAY AND SAID MOM I HAVE TICKETS TO SEE TRAVIS TRITT TONIGHT WOULD YOU LIKE TO GO WITH ME ? MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS WHO IS TRAVIS TRITT ? WELL LATER THAT EVENING AT A US 101 CONCERT I FOUND OUT AND HAVE BEEN A COUNTRY MUSIC FAN EVER SINCE. I STARTED TO LISTEN TO US 101 ON THE WAY HOME FROM THE CONCERT AND HAVE KEPT MY RADIO THERE . I HAVE NEVER KNOWN A RADIO STATION TO GIVE SO MUCH TO IT'S LISTENERS BEFORE. YES ALL STATIONS HAVE CONTEST AND THINGS LIKE THAT TO DRAW THE LISTENING CROWD IN BUT US 101 REALLY GOES OVER AND BEYOND WITH ALL THE CHARITY WORK FOR ST JUDE KIDS , THE KIDS AT CHRISTMAS THAT WOULD HAVE NOTHING WITH OUT THEM. I REMEMBER ANYTIME THERE IS A WEATHER RELATED PROBLEMS SUCH AS TORNADOS AND HURRICANES US 101 IS THERE TO COLLECT MONEY AND ALL NEEDED ITEMS AND GET IT TO THE PEOPLE . WE LOVE US 101 AND WANT THEM TO KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK THEY DO BY MAKING OUR LISTENING TIME A PLEASURE. MOST OF ALL I WOULD LIKE TO THANK KIM FOR ALWAYS TAKING THE TIME TO HAVE THE ONE ON ONE WITH HER LISTENERS ESPECIALLY ON A HOLIDAY WHEN I AM THINKING OF MY SON IN THE SERVICE AND WHAT ALL THE VETERANS HAVE GIVEN AND GIVE US EACH DAY SO WE CAN HAVE OUR FREEDOM HERE IS THE GREAT USA . I CALL KIM ON THESE DAYS AND ASK HER TO PLAY LEE GREENWOODS SONG AND WITH IN 5 MINUTES SHE IS PLAYING IT WITH A HOLLER BACK FOR ALL OF OUR SERVICE MEN THANKS KIM AND US 101 FOR THE GREAT DJ'S YOU HAVE THERE. Charolotte Arnold meeting Gary Nichols and becoming fast friends of course is one of my favorite memories, my other fav is meeting you and becoming friends, your a blast, an incredible DJ, person, and glad to say friend !!!!! oh and you have one really cute kid !!! Vickie L Tripp, Secretary Memorial Center For Rehabilitation I have listened to US101 for years. I remember as a child my mom listening to the morning show on our way to school. I remember the day the Big John Anthony died. We felt like we had lost a member of our family. As an adult, I have a new respect for the people at US101. In February a F4 tornado swept through our small community of Rosalie Alabama damaging over 100 homes, 40 of them completely destroyed including mine. I remember feeling so lost and unsure of where to turn. The next day, Brian Stewart pulled up in our yard and began talking to my husband. He immediately ask me to tell him our story and ask sincerely what could people do. They played our interview on the radio and the next day two truckloads full of supplies, food, clothes and toys pulled into our town lead by the US101 flight crew. We will never be able to say thank you enough for what you guys did for us. Our community was definitely blessed by the kindness of the people at US101 to organize the relief efforts. We will never forget it. Angie Marona PS. Kim’s the greatest!! She helped us find our dog on with the Doggone report! Happy Anniversary US101. I am a 29 year old Chattanooga raised girl, that was brought up listening to the right music: The Music of US101. One of my first childhood memories of radio is riding around with my mom and listening to US101, one of the first songs I remember my mom loving was “Tennessee River” by Alabama. My mom is gone now, but even that memory is heartfelt! The first concert I ever went to was when “George Strait” (YES KING GEORGE) played at the memorial auditorium, it was when “Ocean Front Property” was number one, I was in elementary school. Of course this had to be a US101 event, it is the only station that has always brought the STARS To Town! All through my high school, college, and now adult life, I listen to US101 and can count, on: The latest and greatest of Country Music, Laughter, Awesome Contests, and helping the community. Anytime there has been a major disaster in the US or here at home. I can count on US101 to help. During Hurricane Katrina, and the Alabama tornadoes this past spring, I found myself wanting to do something, but I didn’t know what. Luckily US101 was taking donations, and each time US101 was there and ready to help! My sister and her family live in Pisgah, and I was so thankful to know that that truck full of supplies would help our neighbors, and many of my family and friends. Also US 101 is there to help everyone!!! I always listen for the Christmas for Kids, and St. Jude’s radio thon. I have a heart for kids and do not want any child to go without or be sick! Thank you US101 for helping everyone in need. I have so many memories, but I will share two of my favorites: I am so thankful for US101 and their love for America’s armed service men. During the first gulf war I can remember, listening to US101 for updates on our troops. At this time the troops would leave from Florida to go to Iraq. The TN Valley became a place that caravans of troops would travel through on their way for deployment. Me, My mom, and siblings would stand out on I-24 with American Flags and wave to the troops like many Chattanoogan’s. To this day I can remember touching one of those soldiers hands on his way out of this country, when he drove by. I can still see his face and I pray he made it home! My other favorite memory is thanks to US 101 I have found two dogs of my own that were lost dogs!!!! A few years ago though, my husband had bought a brand new yellow Labrador puppy, and like puppies do, he got out of the fence. I was so tore up, worried about our new 11 week old addition to our family. I called Kim Carson when she first came to the station and was in tears that I had not found my puppy!!! She was so nice and even teared up herself, and I will never forget her saying “ I am so sorry and I will do whatever I can to help you find your lost puppy”. That afternoon Hank the Labrador came home, and has never left! So US101 is there for everything: Memories, Laughs, Our Community, and even LOST PETS!!!! Thanks US 101, and here is to another 25 AWESOME years! Paula Vaughn I have quite a few memories of US101 to share: one morning a few years ago, my nephew's son was in Children's Hospital with cancer, and his heat pump went out. He had a church friend who tried to repair it, but he couldn't. Bearman began announcing this family's case, and by midmorning, someone donated one and someone else installed it. I just sat down and cried..how amazing that a DJ cared enough to do this for a family who was in dire need of help.
Also, One day, I was waiting at my grandson's school for him, and I decided to audit my checkbook balance. Well, I was getting depressed and here comes Kim on saying,"What a beautiful day." She was so cheerful...that I just closed the checkbook, put it away, listened to her and I felt better then. A DJ sometimes doesn't know how much it means to a depressed person to have a mind uplifted. Thanks.... Pauline So many of you at US 101 are very special to me---but what moved me the most was when Dean & I came out to the station in December 2006, to give money for Christmas For Kids. Casey put me on air and asked why I did it (gave $$)---my answer was because my kids had never gone without. The whole scene that day, with Kim, Casey, Dex, and Heather, and those baby buckets, hit me hard. So hard, that I just had to be involved in the auction, so I volunteered to help out in 2007. After arriving at the US 101 station between 7:45 and 8:00 on that Thursday morning, I "ran" about 115 miles that day between the studio and the conference room (they need to put a door in Megan's closet! LOL) I was so tired by 4:00 that I went home for some rest. That was the most satisfying tired I've been in a long time. The auction was a huge success, and I think I became even closer to many of you than I was before. I'll be there again this year, if Heather will have me. You are family to us.....we've listened since the start in 1983, and have always thought that US 101 ROCKS!!! God bless all of you.....loads of love to y'all! Cat and Dean Muncy I have listened to US101 since I was in High School, since I have been an adult... NOTHING else will do! US 101 is the ONLY station for me!! When I was in High School, I thought Big John Anthony was famous. LOL If he had a "live" broadcast somewhere, I was there.... with a Goo Goo Cluster in hand. He loved to see me coming because they were his favorite snacks!! Today I feel like all of you are family. Although not all of you know me personally, I talk about you and call you by your first names to friends and family. You make listening to the radio very pleasant and enjoyable! Thank you for being my friend!! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!!!! ~ Ginger DiBernardo~ I can not express how much US101 has helped out a family member of mine. And you all know them, My cousin came to work there as a receptionist her name is Shannon Asher, and while she was there her little boy Jordan became very ill with a very rare kidney disease. I can remember how the staff and crew at the station stood by her. Unfortunately she had to leave her position to take care of her son. But US101 was a tremendous help to her physically and mentally. Sammy even was there for her even in the position he was in. He didn’t think he was to good to help. US 101 just don’t know how much they mean to our family and others that have problems.US101 is always there to lend a helping hand. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I WILL NEVER FORGET THE GREAT THINGS YOU ALL HAVE DONE. Angela Jackson,
